Week 15: Surviving on music and podcasts

For some reason, this week, my days seem to have zoomed by faster than I can fathom. I arrived at work on what I thought was Thursday to find the parking lot emptier than it usually was. When I looked t at the calendar when I got to the office, it was actually Friday and that took me by utter surprise.

April is usually a busy time for our lab. There is tons of pre-employment drug testing for the summer hiring season. About a year ago, I changed departments and moved from the actual testing lab to a department that is involved in analyzing and releasing the test results. It seemed like a good move at the time, it had a modest pay increase so I went for it.

And like any job, it does have it’s good and bad. However, overriding the human brain’s hard wiring that leads us to focus on the bad, I will intentionally focus on the good today. The best thing about this job is that I can use my earphones and phone which I was not able to do while working in the actual lab. And this is what do I do most of the work day. I listen to music and podcasts all day long.

And I mean all day long. There I am, earphones on, music or podcasts playing. This way, I am not only keeping myself entertained, informed and educated but I am also blocking off the incessant chatter in these cubicles. I usually use my MP3 player but I also recently started using Prime Music which is a great way to discover new songs, genres and playlists. I use Google Play for my podcasts.

And that was my week this week. Have a great week
